Two Mason County Fire District # 2 Recruits receive awards.
Greg Mercer a Port Orchard native was awarded the Marty Hauer fitness award from the Bates Fire Academy in Tacoma Washington; Mercer a Resident Firefighter with the District has just completed the 12 week academy and was given the award for being in the Top Physical condition of all of the recruits attending the Fire Academy, the award is named after Hauer a Firefighter with the Kent Fire Department and Bates Academy Fitness instructor who passed away from cancer in June of 2008.
Ben Pocius from Bremerton was awarded the “Most Inspirational” voted on by all of his peers attending the Washington State Firefighter 1 Basic Academy located at North Bend Training Academy. Recruit Pocius a Chiropractor in Silverdale came to the district a year ago and decided that a career in the fire service was something he wanted to pursue, the North Bend Academy members coined themselves the “Mean 19” voted Pocius the most inspirational due to his constant good attitude and work ethic.
Fire District #2 Congratulates both Ben and Greg for a job well done and are excited to get them back to the station to use all of their newly learned skills.
