Mason County Fire District 2 has completed the largest volunteer recruit fire academy in our history. On Saturday January 23 twelve new members of Mason County Fire District 2 were called to attention and presented with their certificates and badges. Assistant Chief Scott Cooper provided the recruits with the following words of encouragement, “wear your badge with pride and honor, train like someone's life depended on it, and bring passion to every aspect of what you do”. The recent graduates completed over 200 hours of training in firefighting skills using the Washington State Basic Firefighter I training curriculum. The academy was taught by over 25 members of Fire District 2 and Fire District 6. “We would like to thank you and your family for the time and dedication you have all shown, and will continue to show in serving your community” stated Chief Beau Bakken. His speech welcomed the 12 recruits to the Fire District 2 family and highlighted the pride that we all have in serving our community. “This is the first of many academies to come” Bakken stated. “Hosting our own academy, teaching our skills and our ways to the next generation of firefighters is a huge benefit” he continued.
