On Saturday December 5th crews from Mason County Sheriffs Office, Rotary, North Mason Chamber, Local Churches, Boy Scouts, Washington State Patrol, Mason County Fire District 2 along with several other volunteers braved the almost sub-zero temperatures to assist a local family in need. Otto and Nina, an elderly couple living in the Tiger Lake area have been the recent victims of not one, but three attempted robberies at their house. One of these included weapons. With Sheriffs Deputy Brad Trout responding out there several times he began to think "why them". The general consensus was the fact that their house looked like many other summer abandoned properties making them an easy target for prowlers. With Deputy Trout on the case Saturday put a stop to that. Several improvements were made to the property including gravel driveway, gate, tree trimming, cleaning the roof and sidewalk, and other security devices. Otto, a WWII veteran has given so much to his country this seems the least we can do. This was the common phrase among the more then 60 workers that showed up to lend a hand. Local business including Peninsula Topsoil, McLendons Hardware, Mitchell's and several others such as electricians and contractors were more then eager to make a difference in this couples life. "The amount of help that came from all reaches of North Mason in such short order shows the level of care and compassion that residents have for each other" stated Fire Chief Beau Bakken. It was our honor to be part of this great event. We would like to thank all agencies that assisted in making this possible.
