Mason County Fire District #2 encompasses the majority of the northeast portion of Mason County comprising of approximately 102 square miles. It serves  approximately 12,000 residents in the community of Belfair, Dewatto, Collins Lake, Trails End Lake and both the north and south shore of Hood Canal.

Mason County Fire District #2 was first chartered as a fire district in 1946. It started with a World War II military surplus fire engine and a quonset hut building in downtown Belfair. At that time, it served a community of approximately 400 citizens. In the early 1950's, an additional fire truck was purchased, along with a military surplus Ambulance. The fire district was able to provide both fire and emergency medical services to the area for over 20 years. This was accomplished solely by volunteer fire firefighters.

Today, Mason County Fire District #2 emerges as an organization who builds on a proud tradition of its motto, "Neighbors Helping Neighbors". The District comprises of its main headquarters station located approximately 1/2 mile north of Belfair on the Old Belfair Highway and outlying stations on the North Shore Road, Collins Lake, Twanoh Falls, Dewatto, and Tiger Lake. It now serves a community of nearly 12,000 people.

The fire district prides itself on its emergency medical program. Out of nearly 1920 alarms answered yearly, most are emergency medical responses. Firefighter/Paramedics and an advanced life support system is in place to answer multiple calls 24 hours a day.

The District employs a Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, two Fire Captains, 9 Firefighter/EMT's, 6 Firefighter/Paramedics, a Community Outreach Coordinator, an Administrative Assistant, and a part time Administrative Assistant."  To supplement this work group are ten student resident firefighters.  The District provides a 24 hour a day response from two Fire Stations located in Belfair and Collins Lake.

Since it's inception, Mason County Fire District #2 has relied on the volunteer. Fire District #2 maintains a roster of 32 dedicated volunteer fire fighters. They unselfishly provide an outstanding service to supplement fire and medical aid services to the citizens. Without their commitment to the organization and community, the District could not provide the highest quality of service to its citizens.

Along with the outstanding commitment of the volunteers, are the Citizens Response Teams. (CRT) These are also community volunteers who respond to emergencies in the remote areas of the District. Areas of Dewatto, Tahuya River Valley, Trails End Lake, and Twanoh Falls. A total of 40 citizens who have been trained in first aid, CPR, Disaster Response, Incident Command, and many other emergency subjects, stand ready to answer the call for help from their neighbors, and other citizens who may fall sick or injured.

The Districts' Community Education program is comprised of many services including: Home Safety Inspection, Free Address Signs, First Aid and CPR Classes, Disaster Preparedness and Fire Extinguisher Training.

Mason County Fire District #2 is a great source of community pride and rightfully so. It represents the very best efforts of community volunteers and dedicated career staff working together to assure that our high quality fire and emergency medical service continues undiminished into the future.
